Before posting to social media or sharing in groups, have you checked your images for sensitive information? Faces, license plates, ID numbers, phone numbers, chats — once leaked, they can cause trouble. This is a guide to protecting privacy in images.
What needs to be blurred
- Faces: protect others' portrait rights
- License plates: when posting vehicle photos
- IDs and documents: ID numbers and addresses
- Phone numbers, addresses: personal contact info
- Chats and transactions: hide sensitive content before screenshotting
- Bank accounts, order numbers: financial info
Rule: anything that identifies a specific person or sensitive info should be masked.
Two ways to mask
Mosaic/pixelation: blurs a local area, good for large or obvious regions.
Solid cover/blackout: covers the area entirely, best when you want nothing visible.
Mask images with PixelForge
Open the PixelForge Mosaic Tool — local processing, nothing uploaded, extra privacy.
Step 1: Upload your image. Step 2: Paint over sensitive areas (faces, plates, text), adjusting the mosaic size. Step 3: Download the masked image.
Tips
- Mask thoroughly — too-fine mosaic can be partially recovered
- Check the background for hidden info
- Don't just crop — cropping doesn't remove information
- Use local tools for sensitive images
